The Kasu was the fundamental unit of Mysore's copper currency during the Wadiyar dynasty's long consolidation of the Deccan plateau, a period interrupted violently when Hyder Ali — a military commander of no royal blood — effectively seized control of the kingdom from Krishnaraja Wadiyar II in 1761, ending this issue's production run. Hyder Ali immediately reformed the coinage to assert his own authority.
