Obverse description Goddess Lakshmi seated facing, her arms raised or extended to either side, depicted in a stylized folk art manner within a beaded border encircling the entire field. A lotus or floral motif appears below the deity, consistent with traditional iconography of Lakshmi as the goddess of fortune and prosperity. The design is rendered in low relief with bold, primitive engraving characteristic of Mysore copper coinage of this period.

Additional information

The Kasu was the fundamental unit of Mysore's copper currency during the Wadiyar dynasty's long consolidation of the Deccan plateau, a period interrupted violently when Hyder Ali — a military commander of no royal blood — effectively seized control of the kingdom from Krishnaraja Wadiyar II in 1761, ending this issue's production run. Hyder Ali immediately reformed the coinage to assert his own authority.
