The cross design is rendered in the angular, flat relief characteristic of Cilician Armenian hammered copper coinage. A circular Armenian legend surrounds the central motif along the outer border, reading ՇԻՆԵԱԼ Ի ՔԱՂԱՔՆ Ի ՍԻՍ (Struck in the city of Sis), identifying the mint. The overall composition is austere and functional, consistent with the subsidiary bronze denominations of the Cilician Armenian monetary system. |
