| Описание аверса | Struck in the bull-and-horseman tradition inherited from the Chahamana coinage, the obverse displays a stylised equestrian figure occupying the right portion of the field, rendered in a schematic, flat-relief style characteristic of early Delhi Sultanate hammered billon jitals. To the left, a reclining humped bull (Nandi) is depicted in profile. The composition fills the irregular flan entirely, with Nagari legends distributed around or between the principal devices. The overall workmanship reflects the transitional numismatic idiom of the early thirteenth century, blending pre-Islamic Rajput iconographic conventions with sultanate monetary practice. |

Iltutmish consolidated the Delhi Sultanate into a functioning imperial state after inheriting a fractured kingdom from Qutb ud-Din Aibak in 1210, and his coinage was central to that project. He was the first Delhi sultan to issue coins in his own name with a proper Islamic formula — a deliberate assertion of legitimacy toward both his subjects and the Abbasid Caliphate in Baghdad, from whom he sought and received formal recognition around 1229.
The billon jital denomination descended directly from pre-Islamic Shahi coinage conventions, retained for practical reasons of local trade familiarity.
