| 背面描述 | Central motif of a relief map of Taiwan island, displayed vertically in the field against a horizontally lined background. The denomination characters '壹' (one) and '角' (jiao) flank the map to the right and left respectively, while the characters '台灣省' (Taiwan Province) are inscribed across the lower portion of the map itself. The entire central design is enclosed within a wreath border of stylized sprigs, mirroring the obverse treatment, with the coin's plain rim visible beyond. |

Issued in 1949 as the Nationalist government collapsed on the mainland and the Republic of China relocated to Taiwan, this coin belongs to a currency system hastily reconstituted under catastrophic conditions. The ROC had just introduced the New Taiwan Dollar in June 1949 to replace the hyperinflated Old Taiwan Dollar at a rate of 40,000 to one — a ratio that illustrates exactly how badly the previous monetary order had disintegrated.
The brass composition was a practical choice for a government operating on severely constrained resources after losing the civil war to the Communists.
