Frederik I secured control of Gotland in 1525 after the island's transfer from the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, and the Visby mint resumed striking under Danish authority almost immediately. The hvid was a low-denomination coin deeply embedded in Baltic trade, and Gotland's position made local coinage a practical necessity rather than a prestige exercise. Hauberg 129 is among the scarcer products of this short-lived resumption — the mint's activity under Frederik was intermittent and appears to have ceased entirely before his death in 1533.
