The K.K. Reichs-Central-Cassa was not a commercial bank but the imperial treasury itself — these gulden notes were state cash instruments, issued directly through the finance ministry rather than through the Austro-Hungarian Bank. That distinction mattered legally and in terms of backing. The design team was unusually distinguished: Storck was primarily an applied arts architect, Eisenmenger a history painter of considerable reputation, and Schirnböck one of the most technically accomplished intaglio engravers working in Vienna at the time.
The note appeared just four years before Austria switched to the Krone system in 1892, making the entire gulden series short-lived in its final issues.
