| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays a large spread eagle facing left with wings displayed, rendered in the vigorous late-Gothic style of the Imperial tradition; the eagle's talons grasp a small shield bearing the city arms of Deventer at the base of the design. The eagle fills the inner circle almost entirely, its detailed feathering and powerful posture conveying imperial authority. A beaded border separates the central device from the surrounding Latin legend, which records the date 1523 and identifies the coin as a gold issue of Deventer. The overall composition is typical of gold gulden struck by the three IJssel cities under Charles V's imperial mandate. |
