Franchino II Rusca held Como through a combination of dynastic maneuvering and Visconti patronage, but his grip was never secure. The grosso issued under his name dates to a period when the Rusca family's control of the city was already being contested, and Franchino II would ultimately be deposed and imprisoned by Filippo Maria Visconti in 1416. That short window of independent coinage makes this issue relatively scarce — Como was not a prolific mint under the Rusca, and the political instability preceding the final collapse kept production limited.
