Marsberg — formally Obermarsberg — was a small fortified city in Westphalia whose civic coinage rights were perpetually contested between the municipal authority and the Prince-Bishops of Paderborn. This groschen was struck during a window when the city exercised independent minting, shortly before Paderborn reasserted effective control over the region's monetary production. KM#16 is known with minor die variations across the two-year emission period.
