Obverse description Crowned frontal effigy of King Robert III within a beaded inner circle, the king depicted with a stylized facing bust in the medieval Scottish tradition. The effigy is enclosed by a double tressure of seven arcs, with pellets at the cusps, forming a decorative floral border characteristic of Scottish medieval coinage. The surrounding legend is rendered in uncial lettering separated by pellet stops. The overall design reflects the heavy coinage style of the first issue, with bold, deeply struck portraiture typical of late 14th-century Scottish hammered silver.
