Philip the Handsome was just six years old in 1484, nominal lord of the Low Countries following the death of Mary of Burgundy the previous year. The Regency coinage struck in his name during this period reflects the administrative reality: power held by Maximilian of Habsburg as guardian, not by the child whose name appeared on the dies.
