A beaded inner circle encloses the cross design, and the surrounding circumferential legend in uncial Latin, interrupted by the limbs of the cross, reads DNS : PTECTOR · MS : & : LIBRATO VILLA : EDINBVRGH, identifying Edinburgh as the mint and invoking God as the king's defender and redeemer. |
