Obverse description Central tilted shield bearing the combined arms of Gelre and Jülich, surmounted by a tournament helmet with crest. The shield is flanked on each side by a rampant lion as supporter. The design is contained within a reeded inner circle, with the legend divided between the upper and lower fields outside the circle. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Low Countries hammered silver coinage.

Reverse description A long cross pattée extending to the reeded inner circle, with a rosette at its center. The four quarters created by the cross each contain a heraldic symbol representing one of the four principal cities of Gelderland: an eagle for Arnhem, an eagle with a lion shield for Nijmegen, a rampant lion over a cross for Zutphen, and a rampant lion over a lily for Roermond. The mint name legend is inscribed in the outer field surrounding the reeded circle.
