| Opis awersu | Central device features the quartered heraldic shield of the Archbishopric of Cologne, displaying the arms of Cologne (a cross) impaled with the personal arms of Theodoric II of Moers (the checky arms of Moers), surmounted by a long archiepiscopal cross whose vertical staff extends beyond the shield to the coin's periphery. Four six-pointed stars occupy the angles formed by the cross arms. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, beyond which the peripheral Latin legend reads in uncial characters. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Rhenish goldgulden coinage, with bold, slightly irregular hammered relief. |
