| Description de l’avers | Central field features the quartered heraldic shield of the Archbishopric of Cologne, displaying the alternating crosses and ermine fields characteristic of the see, set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is flanked by a long cross extending to the coin's edge, dividing the field into four quadrants. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial characters reads THEO ARCP COLO nIEn, referring to Archbishop Theodoric II of Moers. The coin exhibits the irregular flan and uneven strike typical of mid-fifteenth-century hammered gold coinage. The overall design follows the established Rhenish Goldgulden typology. |

Theodoric II of Moers held the archbishopric from 1414 to 1463, one of the longest episcopates in Cologne's medieval history, and spent much of it embroiled in territorial disputes with neighboring secular lords and rival ecclesiastical claimants. The goldgulden coinage of his reign draws directly from the Rhenish gulden standard formalized by the Electoral Union of Rhense, to which Cologne was a signatory, binding the archbishop to fixed weight and fineness agreements with Frankfurt, Mainz, and Trier.
The Noss and Felke references place this piece within a tightly documented sequence, but surviving examples attributable specifically to the 1441 emission remain scarce in commerce.
