Reverse description A floriated or quatrefoil cross divides the field into four compartments, each containing a heraldic shield of one of the four electoral dignities associated with Archbishop Rupert of the Palatinate. The upper shield bears the arms of Cologne, the left displays the arms of the Palatinate, the right shows the Bavarian lion, and the lower shield bears a cross-charged device. A decorative quatre-foil rosette appears at the central crossing of the arms. The peripheral legend + MOnE nOVA AVREA BERCHEn, rendered in Gothic uncial script, runs between inner and outer beaded borders, identifying this as a new gold coinage of Bergheim.
