Obverse description A full-faced angel with outspread wings occupies the central field, its head nimbed and facing the viewer frontally in the Gothic manner. The angel's wings extend to either side, framing the composition symmetrically. Below the angel, a quartered heraldic shield displays the combined arms of Jülich and Geldern. The surrounding legend in uncial characters names Duke Reinald as issuer. The entire design is rendered in the hammered, low-relief style characteristic of early 15th-century Rhenish goldgulden coinage.
