Reinald II of Jülich issued this Goldgulden during a period when Rhenish princes were locked into tight monetary agreements through the Kurverein, the electoral union that standardized gold gulden weights and types across the Rhine valley. The county's gold coinage drew heavily on Florentine influence — not by coincidence, but because the gulden's commercial credibility depended on conformity to a type that merchants already trusted across European trade routes.
Felke 1029 places this among a closely related die group. Noss attribution Be#181 narrows it further within Reinald's lengthy twenty-one-year issue span.
