| Obverse description | Facing enthroned figure of Saint Peter, patron saint of Trier, depicted in high relief in Gothic style, seated frontally and robed in ecclesiastical vestments with a nimbus surrounding the head. The saint holds a long patriarchal cross-staff in his left hand and a key — his traditional attribute — in his right hand, with a rose or decorative floral motif at the center of the composition. Two architectural elements, likely towers or pillars surmounted by crosses, flank the figure on either side, recalling the design conventions of Rhenish goldgulden. A beaded or toothed inner border frames the design, with the circular legend in uncial Latin lettering running around the periphery reading CVnO AREPS TREVEn, identifying Kuno as Archbishop of Trier. |

Kuno II von Falkenstein served as Archbishop of Trier from 1362 until his death in 1388, navigating one of the more turbulent stretches of Rhenish politics — including the formation of the Rhenish League of 1381, in which Trier played a central role alongside Mainz, Cologne, and the Palatinate. The goldgulden issues attributed to his tenure follow the Florentine weight standard that had been adopted across the Rhineland after the electoral convention of Rense, but the specific die characteristics catalogued under Noss Tr#139 place this striking within a narrower window of his archiepiscopate.
Trier's mint authority over goldgulden production during this period was periodically contested by rival jurisdictions along the Moselle.
