Obverse description Central field features a pointed oval (vesica) frame enclosing the quartered arms of the Archbishopric of Trier — a cross on the dexter impaled with a diagonal lattice or chequered pattern on the sinister — rendered in high relief on a stippled ground. The shield is surrounded by a beaded inner border. A continuous Gothic uncial legend encircles the design within a beaded outer border, reading KVNODVS ARCHIEPS, identifying Archbishop Kuno II of Falkenstein. The overall style is characteristic of Rhenish goldgulden coinage of the mid-fourteenth century.
