Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of a nimbed saint rendered in Gothic style, standing facing within a beaded inner circle, clad in flowing drapery and holding a cross-staff in the left hand and a book or sacred attribute in the right. A small heraldic shield bearing the arms of Heinsberg is positioned in the lower field beneath the figure. The surrounding legend in Gothic uncial characters reads: * IOhS * DnS * D * IVLIA * hEInSB`, identifying the issuer as John, Lord of Juliers and Heinsberg. The composition adheres to the established iconographic conventions of Rhenish Goldgulden of the early fifteenth century.
