| Beschrijving voorzijde | Full-length frontal figure of Saint Peter, patron saint of Cologne, standing within a beaded inner circle, vested in episcopal robes and nimbed with a cruciform halo. The saint raises his right hand in benediction and holds a long pastoral cross-staff in his left hand. The surrounding Gothic uncial legend reads FRIDICS AREPS COL, identifying Archbishop Frederick III of Saarwerden as the issuing authority. The design follows the Rhenish goldgulden typology closely derived from the Florentine florin tradition, rendered in the characteristic flat, stylized manner of late 14th-century German hammered coinage. |
