The shield is surrounded by a raised inner border. The peripheral legend in uncial Latin letters reads SACRI IMPEI PER ITAL ARCANC, a contracted form of the archbishop's title as Archchancellor of Italy for the Holy Roman Empire, a dignity held by the Archbishops of Cologne. |
