Obverse description Cruciform arrangement of four heraldic shields within a double linear quadrilobe, forming a cross-shaped composite design; trefoils occupy the spandrels between the lobes. A small nettle leaf countermark, the civic device of Hamburg, is applied in the field, authenticating the coin for local circulation. The peripheral legend in Gothic lettering names the issuing bishop of Utrecht.

Reverse description St. John the Baptist depicted full-length, standing facing, robed, and holding a cross-tipped scepter in his right hand; a lamb may appear as an attribute. A lion rampant to the left is incorporated within the surrounding legend. The composition follows the standard iconographic program of the Utrecht goldgulden, with the patron saint rendered in a linear Gothic style typical of late medieval hammered coinage.
