The central shield displays the six-spoked wheel of Mainz, the principal charge of the archbishopric. The whole composition is executed in the Rhenish goldgulden tradition, closely following the heraldic arrangement established by the electoral gulden coinage. The surrounding legend reads MONETA MAGUNTINA, identifying this as the monetary emission of Mainz, in uncial Gothic lettering. |
