| 背面描述 | An ornate floriated cross with fleur-de-lis terminals occupying the four quadrants of the field, each arm terminating in decorative floral elements and set within a cusped quatrefoil frame. At the center of the cross is a small rampant lion. Scrollwork fills the spandrels between the quatrefoil lobes and the beaded inner circle. The Latin legend, incorporating the date 1500, runs continuously around the outer border. |

Philip the Handsome — Philip I of Castile, Duke of Burgundy — instituted this coinage as a deliberate assertion of his authority over the Low Countries at a moment when his inheritance from Mary of Burgundy was still being consolidated against Habsburg family politics and Flemish municipal resistance. The Golden Fleece denomination drew its name and prestige directly from the Order of the Golden Fleece, founded by his great-grandfather Philip the Good in 1430, tying the coin's circulation to the most exclusive chivalric institution in Christendom.
Philip died in 1506 at twenty-eight, cutting the series short. Pieces struck in the final production years carry subtle die differences documented under Vanhoudt's subvarieties.
