Beschrijving keerzijde Central round hole flanked by two facing lion heads emerging from decorative foliage, the whole composition framed by a wreath of stylised branches. The Arabic denomination غرش وَاحد (one ghirsh) appears in the upper field above the perforation. The numeral 1 is placed to each side of the hole, and the denomination PIASTRE is inscribed in Latin letters below, with the date 1925 and its Arabic-Indic equivalent ١٩٢٥ flanking it in the lower field. The word ESSAI appears in small letters in the exergue, identifying this as a pattern strike. A beaded border encircles the entire design.

Aanvullende informatie

The Banque de Syrie et du Grand-Liban was established under French Mandate authority in 1919 and held the note-issuing monopoly for both Syria and Lebanon. This 1925 essai — a trial strike submitted for official approval rather than circulation — dates to the early years of monetary reorganization under the newly introduced Syrian pound, which replaced the Egyptian pound as the territory's currency unit. Essais from this issuer are characteristically scarce; they were produced in small numbers for administrative review and rarely escaped the approval process into broader hands.
