Reverse description The crowned coat of arms of the Grimaldi family occupies the central field, displaying the characteristic lozengy pattern of argent and gules on the shield. A princely crown of elaborate openwork design surmounts the escutcheon, rendered in fine detail. The denomination 1 FR appears to the lower left of the shield, with the word ESSAI inscribed above it identifying this as a pattern strike. The Monegasque motto DEO JUVANTE, preceded by a cross, arcs along the upper periphery of the coin.
