The large denomination 'UN FRANC' is set within an arched guilloche panel, with two allegorical female figures seated at left and right — one accompanied by agricultural implements and the other by a lyre — representing commerce and industry. CASSAN, Ainé — TOULOUSE' at the lower corners.

Opmerkingen

The Chambres de Commerce du Tarn issued this note as part of the emergency small-change solution that spread across France after 1914, when hoarding stripped bronze and silver coins from circulation almost overnight. Regional chambers of commerce were granted authority to plug the gap, and the Tarn department — centred on Albi and Castres — produced a series of franc and centime notes through the Toulouse printer L. Cassan Ainé, a regional commercial press rather than a specialist security printer.

The JP# reference covering four catalogue numbers indicates multiple date or series variants within what is essentially the same note. The watermark is the sole security feature — modest protection, but adequate for a wartime stopgap nobody expected to last as long as it did.
