The Chambres de Commerce du Tarn issued emergency fractional notes in 1914 as small-change coinage vanished almost immediately upon mobilization — hoarded by a civilian population braced for war. Hundreds of French regional chambers issued their own paper during this period, but the Tarn series is among the earlier provincial responses, printed locally by Cassan Ainé in Toulouse rather than through any centralized arrangement.
