French Chambers of Commerce were authorized to issue small-denomination emergency notes in August 1914, as the mobilization for war drained coins from circulation almost overnight. The Nantes chamber was among the earliest to act, and the Imprimerie Moderne — a local Nantes firm operating under Beuchet & Vanden Brugge — handled production entirely in-house, which kept the notes genuinely regional in character. The JP#88 series ran across multiple dated issues, accounting for the breadth of that reference range.
