| 裏面の説明 | Printed entirely in dark blue, the reverse is dominated by a dense guilloche border with ornamental corner medallions each bearing the numeral '1' in white. The pale green guilloche underprint repeats the issuer's name across the field. A central rectangular panel, framed by a fine decorative border with foliate corner motifs, contains the redemption conditions in letterpress text. A large circular red official stamp of the Chambre de Commerce de Calais, bearing the city arms, is applied to the left of the text panel. |

French Chambers of Commerce were authorized by the government in August 1914 to issue emergency small-denomination notes after the war's outbreak triggered an immediate hoarding crisis that stripped coins almost entirely from circulation. Calais, sitting directly behind the Channel front and functioning as a critical Allied supply port, had particular urgency — commercial transactions there could not wait on Paris to stabilize the currency supply.
Arnaud in Lyon printed notes for dozens of regional issuers during this period, running the same presses for competing chambers with tight turnaround. The JP#36.15 à 20 range covers the six sub-varieties of this second issue, distinguished by signature combinations rather than substantive design changes.
