| 正面描述 | A heraldic lion sejant facing right, rendered in a stylized sculptural manner with an elaborate curled mane, occupying the central field. The denomination '1 FR' appears in bold numerals to the right of the lion, while the date '1939' is inscribed in the exergue below a ground line. The engraver's signature 'E. WIJNANTS' is incised vertically along the left field. The design is bold and deeply modeled, characteristic of Belgian inter-war coinage. |

Belgium's 1939 franc carries the full weight of that particular moment: the country was rearming frantically while officially clinging to its neutrality policy reinstated in 1936, when Leopold III severed the Franco-Belgian military alliance. Nickel coinage of this type would be largely suspended within a year as German occupation authorities requisitioned base metals for the war economy, making 1939 one of the final strikes of the pre-occupation series.
