| Obverse description | Left-facing laureate effigy of King Albert I of Belgium, modeled in high relief with fine sculptural detail characteristic of Jules Lagae's work. The king is depicted bare-necked with a laurel wreath in his hair. The circumferential legend reads ALBERT KONING DER BELGEN in raised Latin capitals, distributed around the upper and lower periphery. The engraver's signature JUL. LAGAE appears in small capitals along the lower exergual border. The field is plain, and the design is framed by a continuous beaded border. |

Belgian Congo's franc coinage of the 1920s was administered under the Comité Spécial du Katanga framework until Brussels consolidated colonial monetary policy more tightly after WWI. The Dutch-legend version of this type exists because Belgian law mandated parallel French and Dutch issues across colonial coinage — a domestic linguistic compromise exported wholesale to Central Africa, where neither language had any practical currency among the population.
