Obverse lettering RF CAMEROUN FRANÇAIS C.L.S.
(Translation: French Republic French Cameroon)
Reverse description The central device features a bold Cross of Lorraine — the two-barred cross emblematic of the Free French Forces — rendered in high relief and flanked on each side by a sinuous ribbon or scroll issuing from a cornucopia-like flourish. The arched legend 'LIBERTÉ·ÉGALITÉ·FRATERNITÉ' curves across the upper field within the scrollwork. The denomination '1 FC' is struck in large characters in the lower central field, flanked by the engraver's initials 'C.L.S.'. The date '1943' appears in the exergue, flanked by two rosette ornaments, with the mint mark 'SA' (South African Mint, Pretoria) visible above the cross. The field is enclosed by a continuous inner beaded border.
