Opmerkingen

The East African Currency Board was established in 1919 specifically to replace the Indian rupee as the region's monetary standard — a political and commercial decision driven by Britain's postwar desire to sever East Africa's currency link with India. The florin denomination was an awkward transitional unit, pegged at a rate intended to ease the swap, and it was abandoned relatively quickly as the shilling-based system solidified through the 1920s.

The 1920 issue is consequently short-lived as a type. P#8 sits at the opening of the EACB note series, and surviving examples in any decent state are genuinely uncommon — cotton paper from this period in tropical circulation rarely fared well against humidity.
