| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Faisal I facing left, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and short beard, engraver's initials 'PM' (Percy Metcalfe) visible below the truncation. The Arabic legend curves along the left and right periphery of the field, reading 'فيصل الأول ملك العراق' (Faisal I, King of Iraq). The portrait is executed in a naturalistic, classical style characteristic of Royal Mint production of the early 1930s. |

Faisal I had been king for less than a decade when these were struck, his throne itself a product of British mandate engineering following the 1921 Cairo Conference. Iraq wouldn't achieve formal independence until 1932, meaning the earliest coins of this series were issued by a kingdom that was still, technically, a League of Nations mandate under British supervision. The currency infrastructure was built before the sovereignty was fully real.
