Obverse description The central field bears four large Chinese characters arranged vertically in two columns, reading top to bottom and right to left, denoting the Republic of China year of issue. These central characters are surrounded by a complete circular legend of smaller Chinese characters indicating the denomination (1 Fen), the coin's copper composition, and its manufacture in Kwangtung Province. The design is purely typographic with no effigy or pictorial device, framed by a beaded inner border and a milled outer rim.

The legend 'KWANG-TUNG PROVINCE' arcs around the upper periphery, while 'ONE CENT' is inscribed along the lower periphery. Two small rosette ornaments flank the lower legend at the nine and three o'clock positions, serving as punctuation between the upper and lower inscriptions.
