Obverse description Countermark applied to the coin's obverse, depicting the Russian Imperial double-headed eagle in low relief, struck within a recessed circular punch applied to the host coin's flat field. The eagle's two heads are clearly discernible, with wings spread, characteristic of the Petrine-era Russian state emblem. The surrounding area of the host coin retains its original hammered copper surface, heavily worn and partially obscured by the application of the countermark. The overall impression is bold despite the crude hammered technique employed.
