The Khanate of Kalat occupied an awkward position during Mir Khudadad Khan's reign — technically independent but under sustained British pressure following the annexation of surrounding Baloch territories. Khudadad Khan was actually deposed by the British in 1839, restored, deposed again, and restored once more in 1857, making his coinage a barometer of a sovereignty that flickered on and off at British convenience. That this falus was struck at all reflects periodic reassertions of local authority between interventions.
KM#11 is known for crude, often off-center strikes — a product of the Kalat mint's rudimentary equipment, not exceptional examples.
