Beschrijving voorzijde Central field contains a multi-line Arabic inscription in Kufic script arranged within a circular border, with a small central perforation. The field legend reads the Shahada (declaration of faith) and the name of the local ruler Yusuf b. Mansur, surrounded by an inner dotted or beaded border. An outer marginal legend in Arabic script encircles the entire design, recording the mint name Usrushana and the date 428 AH (1028 CE) in full written form. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of contemporary Central Asian copper coinage, with flat, broad fields and moderately bold relief lettering.

Aanvullende informatie

Usrushana — the mountainous region between Samarkand and the Syr Darya — had long resisted Islamicization well after surrounding territories submitted, making any administrative coinage from the area carry unusual historical weight. By the early eleventh century it had been absorbed into the Qarakhanid sphere, but local rulers retained a degree of autonomy reflected in regionally struck copper issues like this fals. Yusuf b. Mansur represents one of the lesser-documented sub-rulers operating under Qarakhanid suzerainty in this frontier zone.

Album 3314E is a tightly defined type within a series where attribution remains difficult without die study.
