1 Fals - 'Abd al-Rahman b. Muslim

Abu Muslim was the Abbasid general who masterminded the revolutionary campaign that destroyed Umayyad power in the east, beginning in Khurasan in 747 AD. These copper fals struck in the name of 'Abd al-Rahman b. Muslim — Abu Muslim's formal name — date to the chaotic transitional months when the Abbasid caliphate had not yet fully consolidated authority and local commanders were issuing coinage under their own names. The Umayyad caliph Marwan II was still alive when this coin was struck.

Abu Muslim was executed in 755 on the orders of the Abbasid caliph al-Mansur, who feared his enormous popularity and independent power base.
