| Obverse description | Central field bears the shahada inscription in three lines of Kufic Arabic script within a plain inner circle. The legend reads 'la ilaha illa Allah / wahdahu' (There is no god but God / alone), arranged in horizontal registers across the field. A marginal legend in Kufic script encircles the central inscription within the outer border, recording the mint formula: 'In the name of God, this fals was struck at [mint] in the year one hundred and thirty-one.' The coin is crudely struck on an irregular flan, characteristic of early Abbasid revolutionary coinage, with the raised lettering showing typical hammered relief. |
