| Aversbeschreibung | The obverse depicts the megalithic altar of the Mnajdra Temple, one of Malta's ancient UNESCO World Heritage Sites, rendered in stylized relief at the center of the coin. The inscription 'MALTA' appears in the field below the temple motif, accompanied by the year of issue. The designer's initials 'NGB' are incorporated into the design. The outer ring, common to all euro cent coins, is adorned with the twelve stars of the European Union arranged in a continuous circle. |

| Reversbeschreibung | The reverse, designed by Luc Luycx, presents a stylized globe centered on Europe, depicting its geographic relationship to Africa and Asia. The face value '1 EURO CENT' is inscribed to the left of the globe in the inner field. The designer's initials 'LL' appear at the lower right of the inner circle. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union, consistent with the standard euro cent reverse design. |

Malta joined the eurozone on January 1, 2008, replacing the Maltese lira after 40 years of circulation. The transition gave the Central Bank of Malta no creative latitude over the common reverse — that design is fixed across all eurozone members — but national authorities chose the Maltese cross for the obverse series, a symbol tied directly to the Knights of St. John, who administered the island from 1530 until Napoleon's seizure in 1798.
