Beschrijving voorzijde	The central device depicts the coat of arms of Portuguese Guinea, comprising a Portuguese shield bearing five quinas arranged in a cross, superimposed upon an armillary sphere rendered in fine detail, symbolising Portugal's Age of Discovery. Below the shield, three wavy lines represent the sea. Above the shield, a row of five crowned castle towers forms the crest. The entire device is encircled by a beaded inner border, with the circumferential legend reading 'GUINÉ · V · CENTENÁRIO · DA · DESCOBERTA', commemorating the fifth centenary of the discovery of Guinea.

Beschrijving keerzijde	The reverse features a large numeral '1' prominently displayed in the centre of the field, with the denomination 'ESCUDO' inscribed in bold capital letters below it within an inner beaded circle. The upper portion of the surrounding legend bears the inscription 'REPÚBLICA·PORTUGUESA', separated by dot stops, arching around the upper rim. Along the lower portion of the field, the commemorative date range '1446-1946' is inscribed, flanking two small floral ornaments on either side, referencing the five-hundredth anniversary of the discovery of Guinea.
