| Description de l’avers |
Central field features the Portuguese colonial coat of arms superimposed on an armillary sphere, the latter rendered with meridian and equatorial bands. The shield displays the traditional Portuguese quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) on the dexter and a caravel under sail on the sinister, below which undulating waves fill the base of the shield. Above the arms, a mural crown composed of five visible towers surmounts the composition. The colonial territory name CABO VERDE arcs along the upper periphery in bold raised Latin lettering, with two small rosette ornaments flanking the lower field. The date 1953 is inscribed along the lower rim. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. |

| Description du revers |
The reverse presents a plain, unadorned field dominated by the large numeral 1 at centre, with the denomination ESCUDO inscribed in a bold arc immediately below. The circular legend REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA runs along the periphery, interrupted at the top by a small dot separator and at the bottom by a small pellet. All lettering is in raised Latin capitals. The design is framed by a continuous beaded border matching that of the obverse, giving the coin a uniform and restrained appearance characteristic of Portuguese colonial coinage of the Estado Novo period. |
