Descrizione del rovescio	The denomination 1 ESCUDO, with the assayer's initials M.S. below, is displayed in three lines within the open field. A finely rendered wreath of laurel and olive branches frames the central legend, tied at the base with crossed stems. A small Latin cross surmounts the wreath at the top of the design. The entire composition is enclosed within a raised beaded border, consistent with the obverse treatment.

Informazioni aggiuntive	The Republic of South Peru was a short-lived state created in 1836 under Andrés de Santa Cruz's Peruvian-Bolivian Confederation scheme, and it ceased to exist entirely after Chilean and anti-confederation forces defeated Santa Cruz at the Battle of Yungay in January 1839. Coinage issued under this authority spans barely three years. The 1838 date places this piece in the final full year of the republic's existence.
