| Description de l’avers | Central field displays the crowned and ornately mantled composite coat of arms of Austria-Burgundy, incorporating the quartered heraldic shields associated with the Habsburg dominions in the Low Countries. The shield is surmounted by an arched imperial crown with elaborate decorative mantling on either side. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading PHS. D:G. HISP. Z. REX. CO. FL., identifying Philip II as King of Spain and Count of Flanders. The coin exhibits the characteristically irregular flan and bold but uneven strike typical of hammered copper coinage of the period. |

| Description du revers | Central field features a Burgundian cross with splayed and ornately decorated arms, at the intersection of which is placed a firesteel — the badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece — from which hangs the jewel and fleece of the Order suspended on a chain. The overall composition reflects the Burgundian dynastic symbolism characteristic of Habsburg coinage in the Low Countries. A circular Latin legend encircles the design, reading PACE. ET. IVSTITIA. ('By Peace and Justice'), a motto emblematic of the Habsburg governance ideology. The strike is typical of hammered copper small coinage, with some weakness at the flan edges. |
