He is depicted nimbed with a cruciform halo, robed in long garments, raising his right hand in benediction and holding the Gospels in his left. The surrounding legend contains the votive inscription invoking Christ as ruler, a design common to all Venetian gold ducats of this era. The overall style reflects Byzantine-influenced Venetian Gothic craftsmanship. |
